Kristen Bell Says Marriage to Dax Shepard Works Because They “Choose to Compromise Constantly”

Kristen Bell is opening up about the secret to keeping her marriage with Dax Shepard strong after more than a decade together.

During a recent interview on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, the Nobody Wants This actress reflected on how she and her husband have learned to navigate each other’s ups and downs through consistent communication and compromise.

A Partnership Built on Growth

“I don’t like the idea that you’re looking for your perfect puzzle piece,” Bell explained, noting that successful relationships require effort from both sides. She emphasized that lasting love means “constantly compromising in ways that work for both people.”

The Frozen star, who shares two daughters—Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10—with Shepard, said their approach to marriage is about teamwork, not competition. “It’s not me against you,” she added, “it’s us against the world.”

Bell and Shepard recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary, and the actress shared that their shared creativity plays a big role in keeping their connection strong. “We can get deep into random conversations and feel like we’re creating something together,” she said.

Why Dax Shepard Prefers the Mic Over the Screen

According to reports, Shepard has shifted his focus from acting to his popular podcast, Armchair Expert, which he’s been devoted to in recent years. Bell revealed that her husband has no plans to appear in her Netflix comedy series Nobody Wants This, which premiered its second season on Oct. 23.

“He loves podcasting,” Bell told reporters at the show’s red carpet premiere. “He would do it if I asked him, but I don’t want him to do something he doesn’t enjoy.”

The same goes for her, she added with a laugh: “If he said, ‘Would you podcast with me every day?’ I’d be like, ‘No.’”

A Lasting Commitment

Bell summed up her admiration for Shepard by saying she’s grateful to be married to someone who is “committed to growth at all times.”

After 12 years of marriage, the pair continues to show that love, for them, is about evolving together.
