Derek Hough Denies Ryan Seacrest’s “Wheel of Fortune” Story: “This Is 1000% Not True”

Derek Hough is setting the record straight after Ryan Seacrest claimed the Dancing With the Stars judge took a spin—literally—on the Wheel of Fortune stage.

The professional dancer and TV personality responded after Seacrest shared a playful story about Hough allegedly jumping onto the game show’s iconic wheel during a celebrity taping. But according to Derek, that moment never happened.

“This is 1000% NOT true,” Derek reportedly wrote on his Instagram Story on Oct. 21, sharing a screenshot of Seacrest’s interview. “I would never disrespect a set like that.”

Ryan Seacrest’s Version of Events

In a recent interview with USA Today, Ryan recalled filming a celebrity episode of Wheel of Fortune earlier this year with Derek and fellow judge Bruno Tonioli. The host claimed the duo started “goofing off” during a break, saying Hough had been “jumping on the center of the wheel and having Bruno spin it, much like the top of a cake ornament.”

Seacrest added that the crew quickly asked them to stop, warning, “Please don’t do that. That would break it, and there’s only one of those wheels.” Despite the apparent mishap, the host reportedly laughed it off, describing Derek and Bruno as “very physical” and “fun to be around.”

Derek Hough Responds

While Ryan seemed amused by the memory, Derek maintained the story was completely fabricated. The Emmy-winning choreographer posted that no such incident ever occurred—though he joked it would’ve been an epic moment to see.

“However awesome that would’ve been to be ‘spun around it like a cake ornament,’ haha,” he added.

Vanna White Praises Ryan’s Hosting

Despite the mix-up, Ryan Seacrest continues to earn praise in his new role as Wheel of Fortune host, following Pat Sajak’s retirement. Longtime co-host Vanna White even told USA Today that Ryan has been “perfect” in the position, adding, “He did his homework even before he started—and it’s paid off.”

As for Ryan, he reportedly finds the celebrity version of the show more relaxed. “Knowing someone, or being friends, is definitely helpful,” he said. “You can kind of tease them more than somebody you don’t know.”

For now, fans are left to decide whose story holds more weight—Ryan’s playful memory or Derek’s firm denial.
